Transnet Port Operator is offering Learnership Programmes for 2013

Transnet will be launching a Maritime School of Excellence situated in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal with regional satellite centres in Eastern Cape and Western Cape, focusing on the development of critical Maritime skills for the country and the region.
A number of Learner positions are currently available focusing on supporting Port and Terminal operations. Applicants must be South African citizens and be prepared to undergo pre-entry examinations and medicals, where after if successful, they will be placed on a training programme for a period not exceeding 9-months. It is anticipated that the starting date will be 14 January 2013.
At the end of training, Learners may have opportunities for placement into Operating Divisions in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, etc.
Entry Requirements: • Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science • valid Code 8/EB driver’s licence valid for 3 years or more • computer literate • physically fit and healthy • prepared to work shift and in adverse weather conditions • computer literate • technical certificate knowledge N1-N6 will be an added advantage • pre-entry examination and medicals will be required to assess inter alia hand-eye coordination, depth perception and the ability to work at heights.
Recruitment will be done according to/in line with Transnet’s employment equity policy and plans. Transnet Maritime School may give preference to applicants considered as Youth (under the age of 35) and/or currently unemployed persons
Requirements
The minimum requirements are Grade 12 with a pass in Maths and Physical Science OR Grade 12 Technical Matric with a pass in Maths.
